The Northeast Health District is looking for a Communicable Disease Specialist. Under general supervision, gathers, analyzes and monitors data regarding communicable diseases with a focus on sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Coordinates clinic referrals, conducts field visits, and provides patient education/counseling and partner services. Ensures implementation of timely disease intervention strategies to decrease disease prevalence. Completes documentation of all communicable disease case investigations occurring within the district. Collaborates accordingly with internal and external partners and has strong communication skills.
As a Communicable Disease Specialist within the Epidemiology Unit at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.
Job Responsibilities
- Works and communicates with the public, clients, and external partners to provide information and quality services.
- Conduct home visits and other types of field investigations for persons at risk for STI/HIV; locate hard to reach clients and effectively connect them to care.
- Conduct STI/HIV education, triage clients, conduct assessments of risk factors, and refer clients for follow-up and provide appropriate services to clients infected with STI/HIV, maintain client files and other documents and reports in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Obtains medical and epidemiological histories, performs investigations, data collection and analysis, interpretation and responses.
- Provide partner services interviews of infected STI patients and contacts in the field and clinic setting. Perform pre and post-test HIV counseling on patients requesting HIV tests in clinic/field and ensure linkage to HIV primary care.
- Complete interviews, re-interviews, and cluster interviews on assigned cases and provide timely updates and recommendation of closure of all open cases.
Prepares and maintains records and reports on program activities and provide accurate documentation of case activities as required. - Participate in community screenings, health fairs, and pop-up events throughout the district as needed.
- Assists in emergency preparedness response efforts as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university OR Four years of outreach experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of communicable diseases
- Experience in conducting disease intervention
- Skills in patient interviewing/counseling
- Ability to work and communicate with people from varied backgrounds on sensitive topics.
Annual salary of $46,250 plus generous benefits including 13 paid holidays, annual and sick leave, health insurance, and retirement plans.
