The Northeast Health District of the Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking an Emergency Management Specialist. The ideal candidate will work with a small team in planning, preparing, and responding to general population and healthcare related emergencies throughout a 10-county area. Duties will include working with local agencies to have plans in place for mass dispensing of medication and /or vaccination to the general population, as well as working with large companies, local governments, and healthcare facilities to create individualized plans. The candidate will frequently meet with other public agencies to discuss planning and exercise initiatives. Attending public outreach events focused on emergency preparedness is expected as well. State and federal reporting timelines must be met. A candidate that can organize data proficiently is preferred. Candidate should be a team player and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.

As a Training Coordinator/Risk Communicator within the Emergency Preparedness and Response department at the Georgia Department of Public Healthyou will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assisting with emergency response planning as well as the development, execution, and documentation of exercises and drills
  • Developing and implementing corrective action plans
  • Engaging in community outreach and educational activities intended to promote emergency preparedness
  • Assisting with any operational needs during times of response
  • Managing a broad scope of volunteers
  • Administrative duties when assigned
  • This position is based in Athens-Clarke County with routine travel to surrounding counties. Some overnight travel is required within the state

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of experience in emergency management; or One (1) year of experience required at the lower level Emergency Mgt Tech Spv (PSP043) or Emergency Mgt Tech 3 (PST042) or position equivalent.

Annual salary $45,000 plus excellent benefits including 13 paid holidays, annual and sick leave, health insurance and retirement plans.
