Currently, the Northeast Health District WIC Office is seeking a Nutritionist to provide clinical coverage at the Barrow County Health Department. Under general supervision, plans and conducts service or nutritional programs to promote family health and control of obesity. Provides health education, nutritional assessment, breastfeeding education and counseling to individuals, groups, or the public consistent with United States Department of Agriculture WIC Program policies and procedures. Serves as a resource for referral to family planning and immunization as well as other appropriate Health Department and community programs and services.
A typical work week consists of one 10-hour day, three 8-hour days, and a 6-hour day on Friday.

As a nutritionist within the Barrow County Health Department at the Georgia Department of Public Healthyou will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides initial WIC assessment for WIC client and develops nutrition care plans with client-centered goals and monitors client’s progress towards those goals
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy as per referral
  • Provide nutrition classes for clients
  • Coordinate client services and referrals with appropriate agencies
  • Participate in case plan reviews and interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Develop and/or approve nutrition education materials
  • Provides initial counseling to all high-risk participants
  • Providing health education to mothers on topics such as breastfeeding, nutrition, or parenting skills
  • Monitoring children’s growth rates and development over time, referring them to specialists when necessary
  • Providing nutrition education to pregnant women and new mothers, including breastfeeding support and advice on infant formula use
  • Conducting food surveys to determine local community needs for meals and snacks served in schools, shelters, and afterschool programs
  • Providing individualized nutrition counseling to clients who need help losing weight, lowering cholesterol levels, or managing other health concerns

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, human nutrition, foods and nutrition, nutrition education, food systems management, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university; AND verification statement of completion of a didactic program accredited by The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
